Not in Kansas is a series of constructed narratives, inspired by the tenacious, self-reliant character Dorothy from the wizard of oz.

Her particular narrative resonates with me on multiple levels: she exudes strength and independence but, is also vulnerable and willing to accept and admit to experiencing feelings of self-doubt.

Dorothy is not a one-dimensional character, and it is her nuanced personality, created not just in baum’s original text, but also in her near-mythical status in popular culture, that I seek to explore and convey to the viewer.

In particular, her journey of self-discovery overcomes fear and loneliness to become empowered and assertive in a strange land, inspired me to create narratives which blur the boundaries between fantasy and truth, offering scenarios within which the protagonist wrestles with feelings of confidence, determination and boldness but is conflicted with ideas of isolation, detachment and fear.

A classical aesthetic for a contemporary questioning on identity.

Iwajla Klinke is an internationally acclaimed multi-award winning artist from Germany.

The classical aesthetic of her portraits, evoke some of the great Baroque painters of the Golden Age, such as Van Dyck or Caravaggio.

Her systematic plastic language, black background and natural light, causes the characters to arise, giving them a poetic and disconcerting aspect at the same time.

Her research on masks, costumes and clothing is at the service of another research, more intimate, more interior. she questions us on the way we express or hide our identities and how they follow one another or overlap in our own life.

Inspired by the richness of the African lifestyle, his contemporary photography aims to influence the world’s perception of Africa and its art, often viewed through a limited lens in film and media.

Through his art, he is inspired to represent the beauty and visual poetry of everyday African culture, lifestyles and behaviors.

He started creating his colorful and soulful images, shooting on his father’s iPhone, and today he’s still an “iPhone artist” because he finds it portable and cheap to purchase compared to the digital camera.

Performance and improvisation. Staging the naked body as a particle in the world of aesthetics.

Julia Buruleva is a barcelona-based, russian-born, photographer and art director, creating conceptual photography and motion.

It’s a series of photo performances, one of her favorite ways to create: she invites anonymous participants for a shoot. She doesn’t know beforehand how many will come, their appearance, their personality or how they will interact with each other. She just offers some main visual theme and then lets the models improvise.

Things happen freely during the shoot. she doesn’t have any final image in her mind.

His main concern is not to confine himself in any formalism or filiation, in order to create a dreamlike and original universe.

He defines himself as self-taught, a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, since he has to set up sets, paint backgrounds, make sculptures, invent staging, place lighting or rework images.

His work is guided above all by the emotion that it could arouse and a certain idea of beauty. Motherhood, filiation, the human being and his relationship to nature, consumerism and intimacy are recurring themes in his work.
